Double Axel Technique

Does anyone here have or are working on their double axel?

I'm curious about some differences in technique, such as with the free leg, arm switch, and backward edge before the entry.

For my double axel I usually enter on a definite ROB, whereas I see skaters from other countries enter more on a RIB, with definite free leg prep. I also don't bend my free leg much, whereas the same people who do the entry previously mentioned are bending their free leg a lot before they pull the knee through and jump. For the arm switch I pull both arms up from the hips, to slightly above the shoulder line, then squeeze and pull in.

How do you do your double (or single) axel?

I haven't done an axel for awhile but I generally used my ROB and free-leg I would get a good swing and only bend as I got airborne but then would bend and pull upwards to the left- I used it to get torque and increase rotation speed until I started over rotating the single and had to open it up....but that is an advantage on the double...arms I always crossed over chest, right over left - as again using the swing of free arm and leg to get faster rotation.

Have you tried practicing on foot with free weights on the ankles? That helped me a lot. I liked the free weights as they mimicked the weight of my skates. My brother used to use heavier weights than his skates because he had a hard time getting height. He said it helped.
