How to get started in Figure Skating?

I've been skating for 24 years at this point, mostly quad rink skating, but I've done inline speed and roller derby as well for a few years. I have taken some inspiration from artistic ice skaters for my own rink skating, but I've never learned it formally and would love to learn some of the formal moves and jumps. I'm still under 30 so I figure it's not too late to learn. What can I do to get into it?

  • Find a coach, artistic club in your rink.

  • honestly i have been attempting to self-teach.. it's slow going. i work on strengthening my edges the most, and i use the USARS technical handbook to gain knowledge of figures and study moves. instagram has a huge amount of videos for artistic skating that make it easier for you to watch people doing moves and study their movements.

  • It will be slow going, I wouldn't recommend it. Many are not doing proper movements as well sadly.
